overall personality Tempest is many things, so let us begin with what she is not: Compassionate, overly caring, weak, unobservant, easily intimidated. Tempest is in all ways a strong, independant woman. While she may not be strong physically, she has magic to help her in area that she is weak, and she is smart. A good animal comparison for the woman would be a fox, sly, cunning, and occasionally (always) ruthless. She knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it. Plotting to kill and betray the Queen that she is supposedly loyal to makes her wary, she's not one who can be taken advantage of easily. But it also keeps her constantly alert, aware to teh changes that occur within the castle every day. She never lets her guard down because with her position, close in the hearts of some and absolutely loathed by otehrs, she can't afford to. But Tempest was never one to relax anyway.
Intellectually Tempest surpassed the expectations of many, especially men. She's not afraid to talk back to people, to present her ideas or shoot down theirs. As a child she was very bright, and that quality never faded away. Perhaps, if she had been born the eldest, Tempest might still be on a court living path even without her skill in magic. Her parents always were proud of her accomplishments in her lessons, but they never did more than praise her because if anyone deserved to live a better, higher ranking life than that of a servant, it should have rightfully been Rachel. So Tempest's intellectual ability was overlooked, though she still managed to make her own way in life.
Yes, Tempest plans to kill the Queen, but she is not bloodthirsty in that sense. Anyone standing in her plans must be struck down, that is a point that she has never questioned, but she doesn't go out of her way to find reasons to harm others. In fact, as of yet, she has never truly hurt anyone directly, though Princess Tatianna may be an exception, depending on which way you look at it. Still, there is no doubt in her mind that she will be able to kill the Queen when she decides it is time to make her move.
Magic is both a weakness and an advantage to Tempest. It is not a weaknes in the sense that she is unskilled, but that she sometimes becomes power hungry. Magic makes everything so easy, you can even wipe memories or control emotions with it. It is easy for many wizards to use it for everything and let it control their lives. Tempest does not want to become one of those people. She never wants to owe her accomplishments to magic. The power can assist her, yes. It can provide little benefits and advantages where needed, but she wants to control it, not the other way around. However, Tempest is also one of those people who enjoys power, and Magic gives that to her so easily. It is her weak point, like an addicting drug that she sometimes has to focus and concentrate to not use an overdose of. The lure of power that magic can give with a wave of the hand is something that many people would die to feel and soemtimes it eels like a curse to Tempest.
There really are no limits to magic but the ones that Tempest places upon herself. Anything is possible, from moving inanimate objects to changing someone's affections. But there is a toll taken in the form of Tempest's energy. For small spells, such as shutting the door or conjuring up a small flame, the reduce in energy isn't even noticable, not if you did the same spell a hundred times over in rapid succession. The more powerful the spell is, the greater the toll. Though changing someone's feelings may not seem like much, it almost takes more energy than anything else because you are tampering with someone's personality, That's why Tempest hasn't used spells to increase her favor in the Kings eyes, besides, she gets a personal satisfaction out of doing that herself.

the story Tempest was born the younger of two twin girls on May 17th, many years ago. Her family was not of the high ranking Neustrian court members, the twin's parents were servants in the castle, as they had been for nearly their entire lives. The two daughters were expected to do the same. There was no great glory or glamour in the future of either twin when their parent's wages barely put food on the table, so for much of her life Tempest strived to do no more than serve her kingdom as faithfully as possible.
Though the age difference could be measured in minutes, Rachel Altonous got the perks of life that should rightfully belong to the eldest. Besides that, Rachel was extremely beautiful. Though the pair was twins, they were not identical. Rachel inherited the rich dark brown hair of her father while Tempest inherited the flame red hair that came from their mother’s side of the family. Rachel moved and acted with a grace that her little sister could not master. Tempest often felt as though she were being forgotten especially when her parents began to seek possible marriages for them though they were barely teenagers. Even though they came from a poor family, it was easy to find many suitable matches for beautiful Rachel, yet no one wanted Tempest.
Things only became worse when Raven was born. The little girl was yet another thing to take attention away from the middle child, and so she did. All of their parent’s time was divided between the baby or the eldest, Tempest ended up being rather forgotten.
So, Tempest ended up having a lot of free time to herself. She skipped schooling regularly, because she was a rather bright child. She caught up on things quickly and school bored her. So she would take to wandering the streets, often finding her way into the castle claiming to have a message for her parents. Once inside the walls, she would simply roam the hallways, observing the doings of the royals and servants without really being noticed by herself. And then one day, she wandered into a room that she should not have entered. It was the room of the Wizard/King’s Adviser, and it was not empty. Initially the man was annoyed at being interrupted by a child. He tried to scare her off with a bit of magic, but it only ended up making Tempest more curious than before. The two began speaking, and Tempest began to visit the castle to spend time with the Wizard and his magic when time allowed. When she was tested the Wizard was astonished to see that she had magical abilities to match his own, and she would most certainly surpass him or any other wizard in the magical area if the girl was given proper training. A few weeks later, she became his official apprentice.
Tempest moved into the castle, away from her family, and began to study under the Wizard. She quickly excelled in the work he provided for her, confirming her mentor's earlier thoughts. Her days were spent pouring over books, learning different spells, and practicing the same spell again and again in order to master it. Some children of her age might be bored by the continuous repetitive tasks, but Tempest found them a welcome change from the life she had lead before. She barely saw her family any more, except occasionally in the halls, but she paid them no attention. For once in her life, Tempest received more attention than her sister. In a way, she shunned her family as a type of revenge for her years under Rachel’s shadow.
Five years after she began apprenticeship under the Wizard, he died. His death came quickly and suddenly, there was no time to find a better suited person to pick up where he had left off. So… With the help of a few others, Tempest assumed all of his former duties, including becoming the King’s adviser. Some laughed at her young age of seventeen, but she proved that she was almost perfect for the position and only a year after she took up the position Tempest no longer needed the help of others.
Around the age of twenty, Tempest began to set her eyes on more ambitious tasks. To serve ones kingdom to the best of their ability was a right and fine task, of course, but Tempest was beginning to doubt the ways of the Neustrian royals, more specifically the queen. The woman was weak, spineless, and did nothing to aide her kingdom in any way. She was just a doll, sitting beside the King, thinking herself so important when she did nothing to help her people on her own. A young, yet prideful, Tempest began to dislike the Queen, even before her current plots were forming.
Eventually, as court does to some people, thoughts of power began to corrupt a mind that was once only concerned with helping her Kingdom. Tempest fully acknowledges the fact that years in the castle and the power and authority given to her by her position in court have changed her, and she wouldn't want it any other way. When she first happened upon the Wizard, she was just a curious and lonely child. Now she's a full grown woman, intoxicated by ideas of power even greater than that which she already has, and by thoughts of being the King's Queen. After becoming the official Wizard/King's Adviser and deciding that Neustria needed a capable Queen (like herself) she decided to try to win her way into the King's favor to gain her goals. At first she did not care about him, but now she has begun to fall for the King, though she hasn't quite realized it herself yet.
Tempest is involved with Tatianna's capture. The Princess was getting a bit too close to uncovering her plans for the Queen for comfort, and Tempest decided to put a stop to that. A simple curse did the trick, one of the simplest yet most harmful spells possible to a magician. Curses take the intentions of their speaker and fill in the gaps with deeper intentions lurking within the Wizard, intentions that the Wizard may not even be able realize she had. That's why most Wizard's don't often try to use curses and settle for simple spells to take revenge on people they don't agree with, because a curse meant to make a person trip could come out with deeper intentions and end up causing the target to break their back and die. While the form of 'punishment' was not decided by Tempest, she intended to get Tatianna out of her hair. It seems that the curse brought Freyrgard into the equation, and tempest is not at all disappointed by the curse's turn out. It has becoem better than she ever expected.
As for the rest of her story, well, that's still being written. Tempest has plans to kill Queen Ysmay, as soon as she is sure that she would be the King's choice for a new wife. The Queen however, has become aware of her plans and suspects her involvement in Tatianna's disappearance, along with the eldest Knavesmire child. The servants have also begun to whisper rumors of her thoughts and intentions involving the Queen through the hallways, though no one really pays any attention to them. That the Queen and Roran are rather aware of her intentions presents a problem for the Wizard, and she now finds herself having to watch out for her back while plotting to stab the Queen's.
